Do I Really Hate the DNA?

For those who follow Throw-Yo socials, you’ve been many, many memes based on the DNA. In fact, one might think that I hate the DNA with how much time and mental energy I’ve spent on such memes.

The short answer is, no, I don’t really hate the DNA. Even if I can only do a Responsive DNA.

The long answer is that it’s easy for content creators to constantly do the DNA for their audiences since it has wide appeal. You’ll find no shortage of people doing the DNA with their heaviest yo-yo, their lightest yo-yo, their cheapest yo-yo, a pink yo-yo, etc… They’ll also perform the DNA on a variety of different objects, like pens…or grandma. They’ll even perform it with insanely long strings!

I understand it helps grow the hobby, but sometimes it gets frustrating to see so much DNA when there are other amazing tricks out there, many of which these content creators are more than capable of performing.

Why do I keep making DNA meme? It’s become a bit meta now, and I’ve built up a reputation as despising the DNA. Hell, I even sell a “Don’t DNA” tee and stickers! I guess it’s just a bit funny to continue the gag…even if I’m the only one who thinks so.

In all seriousness, the DNA is an impressive trick. If you enjoy the DNA, keep doing it to your heart’s content. If you like seeing other people do it, keep liking and subscribing. I’m not here to tell you what to do, or how to enjoy what you enjoy. I’m just here to poke a little fun, mostly at myself.

Pure Ink Testing

Spooky Season is in full swing, but that doesn’t mean I’m not looking toward the future!

The latest strings I’ve been testing are Pure Inks (tentative name) which are 100% rayon. Honestly, I didn’t think it would work well, but I’m enjoying the hell outta them. They’re almost velvety, and not as intense as regular Inks. A bit more laid back, though they seem to gain torsion very quickly no matter how I spin them.

These may never make it to sale, but who knows!

I’ll be sending some out to testers soon.

Caring for Your Throw-Yo Strings

One of the best parts about Throw-Yo Strings, no matter which line you purchase, is that they are extremely long lasting. So much so, that they may eventually get kinda grubby from use. That’s OK, though! All they need is a quick wash, and they’ll be perfect to use again.

Here’s some quick tips on cleaning your strings:

Hand Washing

Hand washing is super easy, and doesn’t take too long if you’re only washing a few strings. Just soak the string in cool water with a bit of mild detergent or dish soap, then agitate them a bit. Once done, give’em a rinse to make sure all the detergent is out and air dry them.

Machine Washing

Machine washing is even easier than hand washing, because you’re doing laundry anyway…right? Just chuck your strings in a pants pocket and run them through a cycle with cold water. Better yet, if you need to wash a bunch of strings you can purchase some mesh laundry bags and toss your strings in there.

These things are great for washing strings.

Just like hand washing, make sure to air dry your strings.

Post-Wash

This little step is something I like to do once my strings are washed and dried. Basically, just grab a dryer sheet, fold it in half, and run your strings through it once or twice. A single dryer sheet should through tons of string.

Spooky Season is Here!

That’s right! One of my favorite times of the year has arrived, and it’s time for all sorts of Spooky fun here at Throw-Yo. You’ll find some great new tees, along with some familiar favorites in the Spooky Season category. There’s also some new strings, counterweights, and stickers as well!

Spooky SOLUTIONS

Speaking of strings. I’m proud to announce that Catalysts are finally here! You can find them in two colors currently, Stingy Jack, and Witch’s Brew. A new limited-edition Emulsion string is also available in Candy Corn colors.

Dreadful Designs

Chatterbox is our new seasonal design for 2024 in the shop, but don’t forget about our Skele-Throw, Throw-Ded, and Throw Note designs that we carry year-round. You can grab these designs on Unisex and Feminine tees, or as stickers!

Creepy Counterweights

Gummy Counterweights are still rather new at Throw-Yo, and Skulls were the first type released. Now you can also snag Brains! So far these are just available in Soul Purple, but more colors will be added soon!

On The Chopping Block

You may have noticed a few strings missing from the shop this month. Shiv-R, FRI, and Byg M4n inks were all taken down, as their time to head to the fish market had come.

As I continue to change and refine my offerings, another set of strings is on the chopping block this time. This time, it’s the entire line of Ethers.

That’s right. Ethers are going away.

I’ve decided to focus on the premium string lines. An Ether or two may still end up in some packages as a freebie, but once September rolls around they won’t be for sale anymore. If you dig ’em, snag ’em this month before they’re gone for good.

Catalyst String Testing Continues

While I had hoped to release Catalyst Strings by now, they still need a bit more testing and tweaking before I’m ready to do so. The next set of test string is made from bonded nylon and trilobal poly, and while it needs breaking in, it feels a bit nicer to me than the previous Catalysts I’ve made. Of course, it’s off to testers now so we’ll see what they have to say about it.

V2 SOLUTIONS Formula

Throw-Yo is proud to announce a new string formula!

This new formula retains the tight wind that all SOLUTIONS Strings are known for, but makes it much easier to get them on a yo-yo, and is a bit softer on the finger. V2 SOLUTIONS also stay neutral much longer than the previous SOLUTIONS formula.

Going forward, all strings sold will be V2 SOLUTIONS, no matter which line you purchase.

I hope this new formula excites you as much as it excites me! I’m constantly striving to make a better product, and this is a great step forward for SOLUTIONS!

New Phosphor Bronze Elixir

You can hear it, can you not? The spinning of the bearing. The ‘ting’ of the yo-yo as it binds and returns to your hand. The auditory pleasure of throwing is something sometimes overlooked, but not with these Phosphor Bronze Elixirs. A blend of bronze and tan, soothing and reminiscent of acoustic strings. A visual pleasure to go along with the tactile and audio sensation of yo-yo play.

New Soul Purple Elixir

Yo-yo is entwined into your soul. Soul Purple is the embodiment of the human/yo-yo connection. Soft purple of the creative throwing spirit combined with the hardened steel of the human spirit.

Soul Purple is a beautiful string that looks amazing on just about every yo-yo.
